MY OPINION ABOUT THE ANTI-IMMIGRANT WAVE WHICH RISED IN UNITED STATES SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE HOUSING CRISIS WHICH BROUGHT THE WORLD TO RECESSION.

I am a Brazilian born person who lives in United States since 1993. I Came to this country legally but started to work and became undocumented for four years. I spent four more years in the line for the legalization process. At the time I spent around US $7,000 in fees, fines and expenses for myself and my wife to get the Green Card. My first born son and my daughter were born in the US and both are citezens. Back then, there wasen’t the need to go back to my country and be legalized. If we had, we would still be undocumented or never had returned to the United States. Nobody can hibernate for four years expecting a legalization process. It just doesn’t work.

Now, 8 years after our legalization, I am realizing how much harder it has become to be an undocumented person in this country since the attacks of 09.11.2001, although it was not related in no way to immigration and immigrants. It only makes me think that, the original resentment is against the immigrant, no matter how good they are. The security argument is just an excuse to conceal what is in the shadowed minds of people who are trying to send back all undocumented immigrants.

Before I continue, I have to make a revelation. Recently I did a vocational test through the Internet and it answered that I probably wouldn’t be happy doing things related to math. And I explain that some of the question was about formulas and I used the criteria that if we use only formulas to solve all our problems we may lose our ratiocinate capability. I love to solve problems but don’t believe in any way that any formula is capable to give us all the answers we need.

I probably am just a fool to try to give my opinion to those who supposedly know everything better than me. But, what can I do? Sometimes people who know too much do irrational things thinking they are always right. The Titanic syndrome is always present. Maybe only the fools are capable to see the nudity of the king.

Since the senator, Russel Pearce, reached the approval for his SB 1070 law in Arizona, he inspired others such as Gordon Fox from Rhode Island. Another similar law was approved by the Massachusetts Senate. So, from now on I will assume that, those provisions and their mentors are poised to send back home all undocumented immigrants as their goal. Then I start to apply math to measure the mental state of those legislators.

Let’s start from the number 11 million. Those are not my numbers. They are on every newspaper and news show on radio and television as the number of undocumented people living in United States. Since I have no way to contradict it, I will accept it as a real one. I just would add 2 million, more or less, concerning to the american dependent children born from them. Just say that, 13 million is our lucky number.

13 was chosen because the city where I used to live in Brazil, for about 35 years, is the number of thousands of people living there. So it is easy for me to work with such numbers.

13,000,000 people would be the exact one thousand times of my little city. So, to send back such population is like to wipe out one thousand cities in the United States. It would be like an atomic bomb exploding over Chicago, with president Obama being one of the casualties.

If it was happening in Brazil, with a good lucky, it would represent 1,000 less bad mayors, 9,000 less bad city representatives, a variable number less of bad state representatives. Same for bad federal representatives, and 1 to 10 bad senators. Depending on the state or states those 13,000,000 people living there. But it wouldn’t be a good thing because wherever a big multitude of people living in Brazil, it was composed by essentially good people and just a few bad apples in the midst.

In the United States, I would foresee some of the consequences based on what I know from my little city. We have only about 10 policemen. Then in the US, some 10,000 policemen would lose their jobs. We don’t have firefighters in small cities such as mine. I think we have at least 50 health personel. It includes medics, dentists, nurses, hospital employees, and administrators. But in there, usually, the elderly people is cared by family. So, probably here in United States you would lose more than 50,000 jobs in that area.

In my Brazilian little city we probably have one hundred or more teachers. I will just count them. Not the other workers who work in education. Such as that, the United States would lose 100,000 jobs for teachers.

So, I think our clever readers got the message. We have many other professionals that are similar to those who work here and each one represents one thousand less jobs for the Americans if the 13,000,000 human beings were sent back to their home country.

But I can’t forget to mention two more arguments. We have there, at least, 100 commercial establishments such as super markets, grocery stores, gas stations, or any other kind you can imagine. So, eliminating 100,000 commercial houses from the American economy will not bring order to the chaotic immigration system the United States has.

And we have to remember the cause of the crash rates in the stocks now-a-days. The crisis went off because of the bad investments made there. And the housing industry were seriously affected. So, if you send back 13,000,000 people to another country, it will be 2.5 to 3 million disoccupied homes. I am not an economist and don’t work in the housing industry but I am pretty sure that it is the last thing they want to hear about right now. And how about those legislators that take from their own pockets so the mortgages or rents the owners of those vacant residences would lose?

Then I would describe such provisions of law as coming from angry people. From the type that bump their head and before thinking, kicks the wall in such a manner that they break the wall and a foot. I don’t blame them for that. Sometimes everybody can have bad days and do the same. I want to be a good friend who foresees what will happen and give them a warning. But in reservation, I can say this to you, not even Osama Bin Laden could have the cleverness to try to destroy the United States of America like this.

Those legislators need to just remember that, if they send back 4% of the United States population, it would just be like an earthquake. The aftershock would become more devastating. But I don’t even want to imagine that.

Is not a good thing to blame the undocumented for the problems in the United States. They didn’t crash Wall Street. They are not asking for a bale out. They only want to be legal and they accept to pay for it. It is a nonsense not to prefer and accept their contribution, instead pay to send them back. It is like losing two times.
